HPV vaccine – useless, inefficient, harmful

Sažetak
Cijepljenje protiv humanog papiloma virusa (HPV) medicinski je postupak koji se od 2006. godine uvodi u zdravstvene sustave širom svijeta. U Hrvatskoj ga nadležne institucije zasad nisu uvrstile u obvezni program cijepljenja, no proizvođači i njihovi pomagači lobiraju za to. HPV i cjepivo česta su tema profesionalne medicinske edukacije, a vrlo su prisutni i u javnom prostoru. U njihovoj promidžbi koristi se čitav niz marketinških tehnika, a sadržaj obiluje dezinformacijama i manipulacijom. Jedna od najčešćih tvrdnji ili insinuacija je ta da HPV cjepivo sprječava rak materničnog vrata, odnosno da štiti od njega.
Nepristrana analiza znanstvenih nalaza ukazuje na to da je HPV cjepivo nepotrebno, nedjelotvorno i nerijetko škodljivo. Medicinska struka i zdravstvena politika trebale bi se osloniti na metodološki valjana i neovisna istraživanja i, usprkos političkom pritisku izvana, ovaj postupak proglasiti nepotrebnim i isključiti ga iz medicinske prakse.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine has been recently introduced in the healthcare systems throughout the world. HPV immunization has so far not been included into the mandatory vaccination programme in Croatia, but the manufacturers and their lobbyists put great pressure on the medical profession and authorities. HPV and the vaccine are the frequent topic of the professional medical education, and are often present in the public domain. The spectrum of the marketing techniques is used in their promotion, and disinformation and manipulation abound. One of the most common claims or insinuations is that the vaccine prevents, i.e. protects from the cancer of the uterine cervix.
Unbiased analysis of the scientific findings indicates that the HPV vaccine is useless, inefficient and infrequently harmful. Medical professionals and health authorities should lean on the methodologically valid and independent research and despite the external political pressure, designate this procedure as useless and remove it from the medical practice.
